This one was another doll club challenge where we were asked
to use a fish pattern. I really wanted to make a mermaid (I think every
doll artist has to make a mermaid at some point) so I downsized the fish
pattern and made the creation more about the figure.
Real shells have been applied to her body, with sequins and beads
added for water drops. My idea was that she was swimming up with a fish and ascending
above the surface of the water. Curly yarns for rasta hair have water drops (clear
glass beads) clinging
to the strands, with pink sheers wrapped around her body covered in a
batik cotton.
The construction challenges required a three-sectioned tail for balance
and support and a wire armature.
