Luna was inspired by a doll club project in which Jae Wright
demonstrated various surface treatments for soft sculptures. Instead of
using the pattern provided, I created a crescent moon shape because I knew
I'd want to use it as a perch for a doll. The moon was stuffed, then
prepped with several coats of gesso. Raised shapes were applied using
spackling compound, and the surface was painted with crackling medium and
other paint effects.
Doll is attached (thanks to the discovery of a
10" upholstery needle) and is dressed in sheers, lame', embroidered
fabrics, couched yarns, beads, stretch glitter knits and various celestial
jewelry
charms. Face is needle-sculpted and hand-painted.
This is suspended on fishing line.
