Fancy Birds
Size: 60” wide, 69” height
(2004)
Three fanciful birds preen and pose at seaside.
Decorative yarns
were the inspiration for this piece, and were couched onto the surface during the piecing and quilting process, adding to the “feathered” textures.
Hand-dyed fabrics and batiks were used, with hand-painted areas for higher contrast and detail. Machine
appliquéd, free-motion machine quilted.
Accepted into the 2004 Ontario Juried Show at the University of Waterloo, and took the Award for Best Individual Large Quilt. “Fancy Birds” was then submitted to the World Quilt Competition, with
almost 300 entries from 10 different countries, earning Best of World Honourable Mention (2nd place
Overall), the first time a Canadian Quilt has taken one of the top two
awards.
Fancy Birds was on tour in the US until Nov. 2004.
Price: $9,200.00 plus tax and shipping.
