Mandrill

I become interested in creating a series of works depicting African Endangered Species. Photos taken at a Florida zoo led to this image of a Mandrill.

This piece was a challenge because the piecing and fabric selections did not provide the shadows and detail I wanted to convey. However the success of the eyes compelled me to keep working on it! I added further definition and shadows with fabric paints and finished up with the thread-painted whiskers.

Machine Appliquéd, hand painted and  Free-Motion Machine Quilted.

• "Mandrill" was accepted into the Ontario Juried Show 2005, at the University of Waterloo Art Gallery May  2005.

• Juried into The Grand National, Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, and featured on the postcards, website and posters. 2006.

• Juried into Art Quilt Elements 2008 at the Wayne Art Center, Wayne PA. Exhibit, April - May, 2008.

• On Tour in the US with the IQA Oh Canada Exhibit thru Nov. 2009.
