Mandrill
Size: 40” w x 53” ht.
(2005)
I become interested in creating a series of works depicting African Endangered Species. Photos taken at a Florida zoo led to this image of a Mandrill.
This piece was a
challenge because the piecing and fabric selections did not provide the shadows and detail I wanted to convey. However the success of the eyes compelled me to keep working on it! I added further definition and shadows with fabric paints and finished up with the
thread-painted whiskers.
Machine Appliquéd, hand painted and
Free-Motion Machine Quilted.
