"Motherhood"
52" x 52" (2002)
This idea was inspired by a request from a hospital administrator
for a piece to hang in a meeting room where women's health issues are discussed and
families meet to discuss how life will change with the birth of a child.
I dropped the contrast levels down on this design to keep it soft, using
commercial batiks to portray the swirl of emotion that accompanies the
birth of a child. The popularity of this image led to three other
similar works created over the next 5 years.
Free-motion machine quilted with a variety of variegated, cotton and rayon
threads.
Sold at
the Art and Soul Gallery, Pickering, ON.
