Welcome to Blue Moon Fabric Arts!

My name is Martha Brown. Here you will see original selected Fibre Art creations of mine from 2001 to the present day.

Creative and perceptive as a child, with an often over-active imagination, I've easily found ways to channel this into some kind of artistic expression.

I received a degree in Art from East Tennessee State University in 1977 with a focus on painting and figure drawing, but it wasn't until 1994 that I found an interest in Fibre Art.

This part of the journey started when I was trying to refurbish an old comforter and a neighbor loaned me a quilting book. Within two weeks I was hooked.

I started out piecing and quilting traditional designs often inspired by the fabrics I found. For the first few years I quilted everything by hand. Several friends and family members received these as gifts.
Soon the journey evolved away from using traditional patterns, and creating my own designs.
The next path led away from the craft of quilting to the art form of original wall quilts. I traveled to conventions all over the U.S. to find the best teachers for more creative techniques with fabric.
I learned how I could transform my drawings into wall quilts, paint my own fabrics, and create designs that became national and international award winners.

"From the Witchwood" by Martha Brown, 2001

I moved to Canada in 1998, and married a wonderful Canadian the following year. This is Kevin, below, and he initially designed this website.

After 12 years of Quilted Wall Hangings, falling in love with the design possibilities, selling thru art galleries and shows, competitions and awards, I felt I had nothing left to say. it seems my artistic efforts needed to address new questions, risks and challenges.

My interests have recently turned to 3-D imagery, my first love of portraying the figure, but instead of charcoal or pastels, the medium is fabric, with soft sculptures, or art dolls.

Wire and wood supports (armatures) are sometimes incorporated for structural integrity, and now a whole new world of different fabrics has opened up to me. The endless array of designs and creative expression in 3-D will probably hold my interests for at least another 12 years!

The galleries here, navigated with the buttons above, showcase all items for sale as well as a few of my creations that have sold, been given as gifts or donated for a worthy cause.
